Security at Gist
Conversations often contain privileged, confidential, or sensitive information. Here is exactly how Gist handles that data, and what it never touches.
What Gist never stores
Raw transcripts: Your conversation text is processed to extract themes, then immediately discarded. It is never written to a database.
Synthesis reports: Reports are not stored in readable form on our servers. The only copy that persists is the one you save and encrypt yourself.
Your password: The password you use to protect a private save never leaves your browser. It is never transmitted to or stored on our servers.
How your saved reports are protected
Encrypted before storage: Private saves are encrypted on your device before being stored. Without your password, the saved report is unreadable by anyone, including Gist.
Unrecoverable by design: Because your password never leaves your device, Gist cannot decrypt or recover a save if you forget it. This protection cannot be overridden by a support request or account reset.
AI processing disclosure
Generating a synthesis requires sending conversation text to AI services. You should know this before uploading regulated or privileged material.
Theme analysis: Transcript text is sent to an AI service to extract themes and generate insights. The service does not retain or train on API inputs under its usage terms.
Audio transcription: Audio files are converted to text by a transcription service before analysis begins. The service does not retain audio after transcription under its usage terms.
Account and access
Authentication: Accounts use email confirmation and secure, time-limited sessions. Passwords are never stored by Gist directly.
Data isolation: Each user's data is isolated at the database level. Your projects, reports, and saves cannot be accessed by other users, even with knowledge of your account.
Encrypted in transit: All connections to Gist are encrypted in transit. Data is never sent over unencrypted channels.
No content monitoring: We do not read, index, or analyze the content of your conversations, reports, or saved artifacts.
